Clemson could get two starters back for key tilt vs. Auburn

Simply put, the play and performance of the top half of the ACC thus far in 2010 has been, for the most part, downright embarrassing.

This weekend, Clemson will have the opportunity to gain a modicum of respect back for their conference. And they could do so with two defensive starters returning to the field.

Head coach Dabo Swinney said Sunday that starting linebacker Brandon Maye and starting defensive tackle Jarvis Jenkins are on track to play this weekend.

“Jarvis probably could’ve played Saturday, but as I said last week, we’re going to err on the side of caution with him,” Swinney said. “He’ll be ready to go, and Brandon Maye, same thing. We’re cutting him back loose and going to get him ready to play.”

Maye missed the first two games of the season because of a knee injury and subsequent surgery, while Jenkins missed just this past Saturday’s win over Presbyterian with a knee sprain.

The pair’s return comes at an opportune time for the Tigers as the eyes of the college football world will be on them Saturday; ESPN’s College GameDay crew will roll into town for their pregame show ahead of the nationally-televised non-conference match-up.
