‘Canes confirm addition of former Gator Gerald Willis

As it turns out, Gerald Willis will be able to continue his collegiate playing career in the state in which it began, albeit much further south.

In the midst of National Signing Day, Miami confirmed that the defensive lineman has sent his financial aid papers into the school and that they have been received. Willis is transferring to The U from Florida.

Head coach Al Golden raved about the addition.

Willis was a four-star member of the Gators’ 2014 recruiting class, rated as the No. 6 strongside defensive end in the country. Willis’ stay at UF was a brief one as, a couple of months after a verbal disagreement over a pair of cleats escalated into a physical altercation with a teammate, it was announced that Willis was leaving the program.

After sitting out the 2015 season to satisfy NCAA transfer rules, Willis will have three years of eligibility remaining.
