BYU on rumors: ‘We have nothing to say right now’

And that, in a nutshell, is all you really need to know about the rumors of BYU fleeing the Mountain West for the money-green fields of football independence.

This story, indeed, has some very sturdy and very speedy legs.

Last night, WAC commissioner Karl Benson, when asked about BYU joining his league for non-football sports while the football program plowed into into Notre Dame’s football turf, offered up a short but resounding “no comment”.

A BYU official has followed-up on Benson’s take on the situation, offering what amounted to a lengthy “no comment” while at the same time making it clear that the school is not the least bit happy about these rumors floating around.

(Please refrain from putting the words “magic underwear” and “all bunched up” in the same sentence. That would not be the least bit funny, but would be completely uncalled for.)

"[BYU athletic director Tom Holmoe] has announced publicly that we are looking at every option. And that’s where we are,” associate AD Duff Tittle told the Salt Lake Tribune. “We don’t have anything else to say about it right now. We are not going to be making comments about it all day long, I can tell you that right now. It is raging, and I know it is probably going to get worse.”

Duff Tittle -- if that’s his real name -- is exactly right, things will probably get worse on this front. Especially when a high-ranking school official throws a hissy fit over what the rumor mill is currently churning out.
