Big Ten football 2025 schedule announced: Key games, dates to know for next season

As fans prepare for postseason college football, they can also begin looking ahead. The 2025 Big Ten college football schedule was unveiled on Wednesday.

The 2025 schedule marks the second season with 18 teams and no divisional format.

The Big Ten’s new scheduling model was announced last year and it dictates that teams will play a nine-game conference schedule and three non-conference opponents. Under the new scheduling model, each team will play every other conference opponent at least twice — once home and once away — and will play rotating opponents no more than three times in a five-year period.

Conference play begins on Saturday, September 13. The 2025 season will conclude with the annual Big ten Championship game at Lucas Oil Stadium.

This year’s Big Ten champion, Oregon, will open conference competition on the road vs. Northwestern on September 13 before traveling to Happy Valley two weeks later to take on Penn State in a rematch of this year’s conference championship game. The Ducks will not play Michigan or Ohio State next season after playing both schools during the 2024 campaign.

Michigan, which avoided traveling to Southern California this past season, will play on the road vs. USC on October 11. The Wolverines will also play road games against Nebraska, Michigan State, Northwestern and Maryland. As is tradition, Michigan will play Ohio State in the final week of the regular season on November 29.

Indiana, which delivered a breakthrough 11-1 season under first-year head coach Curt Cignetti in 2024, will face a difficult road back to the College Football Playoff next season. The Hoosiers will play Iowa, Penn State and Oregon on the road and host Michigan State, UCLA and Wisconsin in Big Ten play.

Notable non-conference matchups to watch include Ohio State facing SEC’s newest addition in the Texas Longhorns and Michigan playing Oklahoma in Week 2.
