Auburn brings back Big Cat Weekend

Secondary recruiting violations be damned, Auburn is bringing back Big Cat Weekend, one of the surprisingly successful signature recruiting events that head coach Gene Chizik brought with him to Auburn.

Last year, Big Cat Weekend brought in nearly 25 blue-chip recruits for an action-packed weekend that included a not-so-impromptu pep rally for the rolling of Toomer’s Corner where approximately 100 cheering fans awaited. (It also featured running back recruit Lache Seastrunk publicly calling out Nick Saban during the celebration, captured here on video.)

While Seastrunk didn’t stick with Auburn -- he ended up at Oregon -- a few secondary violations did, with NCAA bylaws being violated for player introductions and a message-board PR campaign that got fans to turn out for the event, violations that kept assistant coach Trooper Taylor off the recruiting trail for a few months.

Still, Auburn had to be pleased with the results as the Tigers signed 10 players that participated in the frenzied recruiting weekend, helping Chizik and company secure a recruiting class many rated in the top five nationally.

No word on whether or not Auburn plans to return the Tiger Prowl, the traveling road show that saw Auburn assistant coaches cover the state of Alabama in stretch limos, impressing high schoolers everywhere with their fancy rides.
