Jaguars signed UTSA WR Joshua Cephus.
Cephus (6’3/190) is a fifth-year prospect who was a solid three-year producer for UTSA. Over his final three years, Cephus posted a receiving line of 247-3202-22 while averaging 13.0 YPR. The lanky receiver displayed solid hands for his career, dropping just nine of the 433 targets he saw come his way, but he caught only 39.2 percent of his contested targets. Cephus could offer some depth as an outside receiver but is far from a lock to land on a 53-man roster.

UTSA junior WR Joshua Cephus caught eight passes for 106 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 27-17 win over Southern Mississippi.
It was a big game for the No. 2 receiver in this Roadrunner offense as the junior reached the century mark for the first time in his career. The UTSA offense did not look its best today as they were out of sync and had trouble moving the ball against the 1-8 Southern Miss. UTSA finally got something going late in the second quarter as they put together a drive with some long plays. Quarterback Frank Harris was able to throw a 29-yard completion to Zakhari Franklin, then capped it off with Cephus catching the ball out in the flat, as he made some ankle-breaking cuts and it freed himself for the 40-yard touchdown. Southern Miss stayed competitive throughout this game as it was tied until late in the fourth quarter. The Roadrunners’ defense stepped up and forced some late turnovers that the offense was able to convert into points. UTSA (10-0, C-USA 6-0) has a big matchup next week against UAB who is right behind them in the C-USA standings at 5-1.

UTSA sophomore WR Joshua Cephus finished Saturday’s 31-24 loss to Louisiana in the ServPro First Responders Bowl with a 3-26-1 receiving line.
Cephus (6'3/185), whose ten-yard score pulled UTSA to within three points with 4:09 remaining in the third, was targeted just four times on the afternoon. Despite the loss this was a successful season for the sophomore wide receiver, who led the Roadrunner in receptions (58) while ranking second in both receiving yards (547) and touchdown receptions (5). With Cephus, fellow wideout Zakhari Franklin, RB Sincere McCormick and QB Frank Harris all set to return, UTSA’s offense should be quite formidable in 2021.

  • JAX Wide Receiver #80
UTSA sophomore WR Joshua Cephus caught eight passes for 89 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s 24-10 win over Stephen F. Austin.
Cephus (6'3/185) carried the load for UTSA’s pass-catching corps in this one. Cephus was the only receiver to earn more than four receptions, 55 yards, and/or score a single touchdown. His lone touchdown showed off some impressive patience and spatial awareness as he weaved through the back of a crowded end zone to find a sliver of space for QB Frank Harris to deliver a ball. After barely playing as a freshman last year, Cephus now has two straight games with at least six catches and a score. It’s safe to assume he will continue to be their leading receiver. UTSA take the field again on Sept. 25 against MTSU.
