    Texans selected USC CB Jaylin Smith with the No. 97 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft.
    Smith (5'11/187) spent four years with USC, showing consistency every time he steps on the field. His best season came in 2023, where he recorded 75 total tackles, one sack, one forced fumble and a pass deflection. He does a good job shedding off his blocks on run defense, posting an 80.1 overall grade in 2024. However, Smith displays questionable vision at times and has average upper body strength . His worst game in 2024 came against Nebraska, where he posted a 38.6 grade. There are also times in pass coverage where Smith lets guys create too much separation, though he is smooth in his backpedal and displays good makeup speed. Despite allowing an elevated 62% completion rate, his 82.5 overall coverage grade in 2024 shows he was a major asset in the pass game and boasts experience in both the slot and outside.

    Smith (5'11/180) was also considering Alabama, Texas, Washington and Clemson, among others. The general belief prior to his pledge was that he would ultimately end up committing to USC. And so it has come to pass. While firmly in HC Clay Helton’s corner, here, the Mission Hills, California, native said that he would like to take official visits this fall, just to be able to experience that side of the recruiting process. Smith may not offer the biggest of bodies, but he hits harder than his bare measurements and possesses a fantastic head for the game. On the 247Sports composite board, Smith lands as the No. 291 overall prospect in the 2021 class. Look for the versatile athlete to join the defensive secondary once he officially signs with USC this winter.

    “I feel good about a school and I’m ready to lock in my spot,” Smith said when speaking with 247Sports. As for who is in play for the 5-foot-11, 180-pounder’s end game, here, there are a number of different ways he could go. USC, Alabama, Texas, Washington and Clemson are all programs Smith is particularly high on, while Oregon, Arizona State, Michigan and Auburn are four other outfits which have piqued the four-star’s interest. Cutting through the cluster of schools, here, all seven predictions on the 247Sports Crystal Ball currently have the Mission Hills, California, native sticking in the home state with USC. On the outlet composite board, Smith hits the ground running as the No. 291 overall prospect in the 2021 class. The versatile athlete profiles as a likely defensive back for the collegiate ranks.
