Chiefs selected TCU TE Jared Wiley with the No. 131 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Wiley (6'6/249) spent three years as a backup at Texas before transferring to TCU for the 2022 season. He stepped into a more prominent role in his first season on campus and totaled 245 yards plus four scores. In his fifth and final collegiate season, Wiley broke out with 520 yards and eight scores on 47 grabs. Wiley’s large frame and clean routes made it easy for him to earn targets and he rarely failed to bring in his looks. Pro Football Focus credited him with a lone drop on 120 career targets. On the other hand, he only broke five tackles throughout his career and averaged just shy of six yards after the catch per carry. Wiley is also a willing run blocker but could use a few more pounds in his lower body to give him a better base when taking on defenders. Wiley has the size to play in all phases on offense but rarely showed a ceiling as a pass-catcher. He will begin his career as a backup to Travis Kelce in Kansas City.

Texas junior TE Jared Wiley has 26 yards on three receptions and one touchdown in Saturday’s 58-0 win over Rice.
Wiley (6'7"/255) was able to be productive this week, he’s been dealing with a shoulder injury that forced him to miss last week’s 40-21 loss to Arkansas. The big man got his 20-yard touchdown in the second quarter when he was uncovered on the left sideline, making it easy for Casey Thompson to hit him square and stroll in for the score. Texas will host in-state rivals Texas Tech next Saturday.

  • KC Tight End #12
Texas redshirt freshman TE Jared Wiley returned to practice and is expected to play this Saturday vs. Rice.
Wiley (6'7/255), who injured his shoulder last November, played just nine snaps in the Longhorns’ 38-18 win over Louisiana in Week 1 and was unable to suit up in Texas’ 40-21 loss to Arkansas last weekend. The redshirt freshman is making strides, as he was able to participate in practice the last few days without any issues. The emerging tight end caught 9-of-12 targets for 166 yards, 18.4 YPC and a touchdown last year while logging 390 reps.

Texas redshirt freshman TE Jared Wiley (shoulder) made his return to practice on Monday, per HC Steve Sarkisian.
Wiley (6'7/255), who injured his shoulder last November, did not participate in the Longhorns’ 38-18 win over Louisiana this past weekend. The redshirt freshman is making strides, as he was able to participate in Monday’s practice without any issues. Wiley being available for Saturday’s game at Arkansas would give the Longhorns additional depth at tight end behind Cade Brewer and Ja’Tavion Sanders.

    Joshua Moore
    Tex #6
Texas junior WR Josh Moore (shoulder) and sophomore TE Jared Wiley (shoulder) are both considered to be probable for Friday’s game vs. Iowa State.
Neither Moore (6'1/169) nor Wiley (6'7/256) were available for the Longhorns’ most recent game, a November 7 home win over West Virginia. But with nearly three weeks off due to an open week and the postponement of their game at Kansas, Texas appears ready to welcome back the two pass-catchers. Moore is Texas’ best wide receiver, as he leads the team in receptions (22), receiving yards (343) and touchdown receptions (seven). Wiley has caught seven passes for 152 yards.

Texas redshirt freshman TE Jared Wiley suffered a shoulder injury during practice last week.
Wiley (6'7/255) and senior Cade Brewer, who has also seen time this season as the Longhorns’ starting tight end, were both injured during open week practices. Brewer suffered a chest contusion, and as is the case with Wiley it remains to be seen just how effective he’ll be this weekend when Texas visits Kansas. Wiley has appeared in all seven games for the Longhorns, catching seven passes for 151 yards.

Texas freshman TE Jared Wiley suffered a knee injury during Saturday’s practice.
Wiley (6'7/255) suffered what was described as a “twisted” knee during the practice, and no determination has been made with regards to how much time he could miss as a result of the injury. The freshman was a quarterback at the high school level, and after enrolling at Texas in January he’s working towards earning playing time at a position led by junior Cade Brewer.

Rivals analyst Nick Krueger refers to Texas as the “odds-on favorite” to land uncommitted three-star 2019 TE Jared Wiley.
Wiley (6'6/220) is the starting quarterback at Temple High in Texas, but he’ll be plying his trade at tight end in the collegiate ranks. In addition to the Longhorns, Houston and Missouri are both angling for his pledge. Krueger calls him “a bit of a project,” meaning that a redshirt may well be awaiting him his first year in college. A commitment could be coming down the pike before the end of the month.
