    Panthers waived QB Jack Plummer.
The 24-year-old UDFA out of Louisville threw for a boatload of preseason yards. NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports he is a “strong practice squad candidate,” perhaps in Charlotte.
  • CAR Quarterback #9
Panthers HC Dave Canales said Bryce Young will not play in the team’s first preseason game on Thursday against the Patriots.
With Young sitting out and Andy Dalton injured, the Panthers will likely feature a heavy dose of Jack Plummer and Jake Luton to kick off the preseason. Plummer spent his final collegiate season with the Louisville Cardinals and has impressed Canales this offseason with his preparation and attention to detail. It’s possible we’ll see Young at some point in the preseason, even if it’s in the final tune-up before Week 1, but at the very least, we know he’s out this week.
  • CAR Quarterback #16
Cal junior QB Jack Plummer has received first-team reps during the team’s spring practices.
Plummer (6'2/220) transferred to Cal from Purdue this offseason, and appears to have the inside edge over the sophomore QB Zach Johnson. During his time at Purdue, Plummer threw for 3,405 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 19 games while completing 65-percent of his passes. If he wins the starting job, he’ll look to help the Bears improve on a 5-7 record from last season.

  • CAR Quarterback #16
Former Purdue junior QB Jack Plummer will be transferring to Cal.
After losing the starting job to teammate Aidan O’Connell, Plummer (6'2/220) entered his name into the transfer portal just three days after the season ended. In his career with Purdue, Plummer has thrown for 3,405 yards, 26 touchdowns, and 10 interceptions. With Chase Garbers having declared for the draft, Plummer’s biggest competition for the job likely will be with sophomore Zach Johnson, unless either Robby Rowell or Ryan Glover return.

  • CAR Quarterback #16
Purdue junior QB Jack Plummer entered the transfer portal.
The writing was on the wall here, as Plummer (6'2/220) was surpassed by Aiden O’Connell who averaged 372 passing yards with a 16-to-0 ratio over the last five games of the season. Plummer likely finishes his Purdue career by completing 310-of-492 passes for a 65 percent completion rate, 3,405 yards, 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over 19 games played. With O’Connell likely to return next year, four-star freshman Michael Alaimo is now the favorite to handle backup duties and take over the starting job when O’Connell eventually departs.

  • CAR Quarterback #16
After pulling junior QB Jack Plummer in the third quarter of Saturday’s game, Purdue head coach Jeff Brohm hasn’t named a starter yet for Saturday.
Brohm is playing things very coy leading into Saturday’s game against Minnesota. After benching junior Jack Plummer, senior Aidan O’Connell threw two quick interceptions but threw the game-winning touchdown with less than six minutes left in the game. Brohm has a tough decision to make before hosting the Gophers.

  • LV Quarterback #12
Purdue redshirt junior quarterback Aidan O’Connell threw for 182 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions in Saturday’s 13-9 win over Illinois.
O’Connell (6’3/200) came in for relief of starter Jack Plummer midway through the third quarter, after Plummer and the entire offense struggled its way to just six points in the first half. O’Connell’s day didn’t get off to a much better start, as he threw two interceptions on his first two drives, but did find wide receiver TJ Sheffield for a 14-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter to put Purdue up 13-9. We will wait to see whether it’s Plummer or O’Connell who starts for Purdue next week against Minnesota (2-2).

  • CAR Quarterback #16
Purdue junior quarterback Jack Plummer completed 12 passes for 95 yards and no touchdowns in Saturday’s 13-9 win over Illinois.
Plummer (6’2/220) was one of several players with a disappointing day in this game. In that had a projected total of 53.5 points, the Boilermakers and Illini combined for a mere 19 points, with 10 of them coming in the fourth quarter. Plummer simply couldn’t get anything going through the air for Purdue, finishing the day with just 95 passing yards on 21 pass attempts. Given how this game finished, with Purdue as the victors and Plummer on the bench, we will wait to see if it is Plummer or Aidan O’Connell who is under center in next weekend’s game against Minnesota.

  • CAR Quarterback #16
Purdue junior quarterback Jack Plummer completed 25-of-36 passes for 187 yards and one touchdowns in Saturday’s 27-13 loss to Notre Dame.
Plummer (6'2/220) had a solid day for the Boilermakers, but was unable to find a lot of room through the air despite completing 25 passes on the day. His first, and only touchdown pass came in the third quarter on a two-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Milton Wright. Purdue’s defense played well enough to keep them in the game throughout the day, but Plummer and company struggled to find the end zone. Now sitting at 2-1, The Boilermakers will look to right the ship at home next week against Illinois.

  • CAR Quarterback #16
Purdue junior QB Jack Plummer completed 19-of-24 passes for 273 yards and four touchdowns in a 49-0 shutout of UConn on Saturday.
Plummer (6'5/220) had his way with the inept UConn defense, hitting a wide open Payne Durham on a 17-yard touchdown strike in the back right corner of the end zone to kickoff the blowout. UConn followed that up by fumbling a snap in their own territory, and the rout was on. HC Jeff Brohm’s passing-oriented offense averaged 10.4 yards per attempt while rolling up 562 total yards on one of the FBS’ bottom feeding programs. Purdue will now focus on their cross-state pilgrimage to South Bend next weekend to take on Notre Dame.
