With Derrick Phelps leaving West Long Branch to join Kyle Smith’s coaching staff at Columbia, Monmouth head coach King Rice had a vacancy to fill on his staff. According to Josh Newman of the Asbury Park Press the head coach has done that, with Duane Woodward making the move over from Fordham.
Woodward joins holdovers Brian Reese and Sam Ferry on the Monmouth coaching staff, with the Hawks looking to improve upon their 11-21 record of a season ago. Last season Woodward served as assistant video coordinator at Fordham, and he has the experience of playing at both the Division I (Boston College) and professional levels.
Monmouth returns its top two scorers in guard Deon Jones and wing Andrew Nicholas, and they’re also adding key additions such as graduate transfer Brice Kofane and freshmen Austin Tilghman and Micah Seaborn. Former Oklahoma guard Je’lon Hornbeak also transferred to the MAAC school this offseason, but he won’t be eligible to play per NCAA transfer rules.
