After spending one season as a member of head coach Johnny Jones’ coaching staff, assistant Korey McCray has decided to leave the LSU program in order to pursue other professional opportunities. The school announced McCray’s decision on Thursday afternoon.
“We want to thank Coach McCray for his time, energy and efforts that he put into our program last season,” Jones said in the release. “We wish him well as he embarks upon a new journey.”
McCray was seen as an assistant who would help the Tigers on the recruiting trail given his status as the one-time CEO and head coach of the Atlanta Celtics grassroots program. The Celtics, who have produced many Division I prospects over the years, were founded by McCray’s father and the late Wallace Prather.
Prior to joining Jones’ staff at LSU, McCray spent two seasons at UCLA on Ben Howland’s coaching staff. His presence helped the Bruins reel in one of the nation’s best recruiting classes in 2012, a group that included Georgia natives Jordan Adams and Tony Parker.
