We are now less than 72 hours from the start of the college basketball season, as feature stories and previews and the like are constantly being rolled out by every media outlet that covers the sport.
You’re overloaded with stuff to read at this point, which is why it may be surprising to you that the best story you’re going to read today is about how a 78-year old former head coach decided to finally get rid of his combover.
I’m sure you know the hair. It belonged to legendary former Purdue head coach Gene Keady, who has since joined the staff at St. John’s as an assistant to Steve Lavin. It was a combover, and it was hideous, it was obvious and it cost $600 a week to maintain, according to this column from the Indy Star’s Gregg Doyel.
And it became a thing of the past nearly two years ago, when Keady’s wife decided that she had had enough of it and ... well ... I won’t spoil the details -- you can read them all right here.
But I will say this: Keady should really be thanking his wife. That combover should never have happened in the first place.
