Patriots selected Arizona State LB Christian Sam with the No. 178 overall pick in the 2018 NFL draft.
Sam (6’1/244) turned pro after starting for two years on the Sun Devils’ defense, logging 17 career tackles for loss, seven sacks, and three interceptions. Only an honorable mention All-Pac 12 pick by the conference’s coaches last season, Sam showed viable NFL athleticism in Indy with 40th-percentile SPARQ results and a 4.75 forty time. Built to thump and an efficient tackler, Sam should offer immediate special teams value with a shot to start at inside linebacker down the road.
