Giants signed TE Ryan Purvis, DE Craig Marshall, and C/G Chris White to reserve/future contracts.
Purvis is a former undrafted free agent out of Boston College. He’ll have a decent shot to stick in New York with Jake Ballard and Travis Beckum coming off torn ACLs. Marshall played college ball at Marshall (where else). White, 28, is a veteran of NFL training camps but has never actually started a game.
  • FA Center #61
Texans G/C Chris White left Sunday’s game with a left knee injury.
White was replacing Fred Weary, who also injured his leg or knee. Kasey Studdard, a rookie from Texas, came in to substitute for White.
  • FA Center #61
Texans coach Gary Kubiak confirmed after Sunday’s game that Gs Chris White and Fred Weary will miss the remainder of the season with knee and leg injuries, respectively.
Weary broke his leg, while White torn his medial collateral ligament. The Texans will likely turn to rookie Kasey Studdard at right guard for now.
  • FA Guard #65
Texans placed RG Mike Brisiel (Lisfranc surgery) on injured reserve, ending his season.
This injury is very difficult to recover from, so the Texans will have a tough decision to make when Brisiel reaches restricted free agency in 2010 (assuming there’s a salary cap). Kasey Studdard has already replaced LG Chester Pitts, who is also done for the year. Rookie Antoine Caldwell and veteran Chris White are candidates to replace Brisiel. Steve Slaton has already struggled to find running room. Don’t count on him getting back on track after losing both starting guards.
  • FA Guard #65
Texans’ RG Mike Brisiel suffered a foot injury on Sunday and it may be season ending.
Coach Gary Kubiak said, “It doesn’t look good right now.” Brisiel would join LG Chester Pitts as the second starting offensive lineman to land on injured reserve. Rookie Antoine Caldwell and veteran Chris White would compete to replace Brisiel.
  • FA Center #61
Chris White will be the Texans’ starting right guard in Week 6.
Rookie Antoine Caldwell, a third-round pick in April, is a better talent than White and will rotate in. Houston’s loss of both starting guards is a concern for the running game, but it isn’t like Steve Slaton could do much worse.
  • FA Center #61
  • Texans beat writer John McClain thinks that Antoine Caldwell will start at right guard next season.
Caldwell can play both center and guard and was the Texans’ third-round pick last year. Chris White would go into a reserve role.
  • FA Center #61
The Texans have extended an original pick tender to restricted free agent G/C Chris White.
White started eight games last season, but the low tender indicates that the team wasn’t overly impressed with his play. He was originally undrafted.
  • FA Center #61
Texans re-signed restricted free agent G/C Chris White to a one-year, $1.226 million contract.
White was pressed into starting action for the first time in his career last year, appearing in eight games as a first-team guard. Though undersized (6'2/290), he is athletic enough to zone block and will return as a backup.
