Falcons agreed to terms with QB Chris Redman on a one-year contract.
Matt Ryan’s backup each of the past four years, Redman has attempted just 34 passes since the end of the 2009 season. Four months shy of his 35th birthday with only 500 career attempts to his name, Redman is one of the league’s poorer back-up options.
  • FA Quarterback #8
    Falcons released QB Chris Redman.
Redman’s highest passer rating this preseason was 71.1; it’s quite possible that he’s finished as an effective backup. The Falcons have signed journeyman Luke McCown, who has experience in Dirk Koetter’s system. This move may ultimately say more about the progress of impressive undrafted rookie Dominique Davis.
  • FA Quarterback #8
The Patriots have reached a verbal agreement with QB Chris Redman.
The former Ravens starter had surgery on a torn labrum in July. New England may try to trade Rohan Davey this offseason and look for different backups QBs.
  • FA Quarterback #8
Patriots signed QB Chris Redman, T Jeff Roehl, WR Jake Schifino and TE Joel Jacobs to future contracts.
Schifino was mostly a return specialist in Tennessee. Jacobs will go to NFL Europe.
  • FA Quarterback #8
Titans released QB Chris Redman, RB Larry Croom, FB Robert Douglas, S Arturo Freeman, S Norman LeJeune, S Sam Massey, S Marcus Randall, QB Chris Redman, RB Joe Smith, and S Marcus White.
Tennessee chose to only keep two quarterbacks.
  • FA Quarterback #8
    Patriots waived QB Chris Redman.
The signing of Doug Flutie meant the end of Redman’s stay in New England. The Patriots should now have room to keep seventh-round pick Matt Cassell on their practice squad.
  • FA Quarterback #8
Chris Redman has seen the majority of the backup QB snaps at Falcons training camp.
From top to bottom, there isn’t a worse quarterback situation in the league than the one in Atlanta. Redman, D.J. Shockley, and Lang Campbell are competing behind Joey Harrington for the primary backup position.
  • Falcons placed LT Renardo Foster on injured reserve with a knee injury, ending his season.
This is the second season ending injury Atlanta has suffered at the left tackle position, and leaves untested sophomore Quinn Ojinnaka to take over. It’s more bad news for Joey Harrington, and maybe Chris Redman eventually. Foster showed some promise in two starts as an undrafted rookie, but may have a hard time securing a roster spot in 2008 coming off a serious injury.
  • ATL Quarterback
Falcons QB D.J. Shockley will miss the season after tearing his ACL in the Falcons’ preseason game Saturday.
And a bad QB situation turns to dreadful. Shockley, a hometown hero from UGA who was battling Chris Redman for the backup job, damaged his MCL and must wait for the swelling to subside before having surgery. Shockley wasn’t expected to play much this year, but was the only QB on Atlanta’s roster with any promise. Casey Bramlet moves up into the third-string role.
  • FA Quarterback #8
The Falcons promoted defensive backs coach Emmitt Thomas to interim head coach.
Thomas, a former defensive back with the Chiefs, has never been a head coach before. He was with the Falcons before Petrino joined the team, though, which could have been a factor in why an incensed Arthur Blank gave him the job. It will be interesting to see if Thomas plans on sticking with Chris Redman at starter, and if Jerious Norwood will see more playing time over the last three weeks of the season.
