Falcons promoted QB John Parker Wilson from their practice squad and waived DT Carlton Powell.
The Vikings, whose offense is run by ex-Falcons QBs coach Bill Musgrave, were trying to sign Wilson to be their third-stringer behind Christian Ponder and Joe Webb. Minnesota would’ve been a better long-term landing spot for Wilson, but he’s staying down south. He’s No. 3 behind Matt Ryan and Chris Redman.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #79
    Giants signed DT Carlton Powell.
A fifth-round pick by the Broncos back in 2008, Powell will add practice depth with Shaun Rogers, Marvin Austin and Chris Canty sidelined.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #79
    Buccaneers signed DT Carlton Powell.
A fifth-round pick by the Broncos in 2008, Powell’s career was sidetracked by a torn Achilles’ in his first offseason. He’ll be a camp body for the Bucs.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #79
    Broncos released DL Carlton Powell.
Powell was the team’s fifth-round pick in 2008. He missed all of last season with a torn Achilles.
  • DEN Wide Receiver
Broncos released WR Taylor Jacobs and placed DL Carlton Powell (Achilles’) on the PUP list.
Powell is expected to miss the entire season after tearing his Achilles’ tendon, but the Broncos are apparently holding off placing him on injured reserve. Jacobs re-signed in July after he played in six games for the Broncos last season.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #79
Rookie DT Carlton Powell tore his Achilles’ in the Broncos’ offseason program.
That’s no way to kick off your career. Powell would’ve been on the roster bubble anyhow, though, and gets to keep his 2008 base salary, which is nice.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #79
Broncos signed fifth-round DT Carlton Powell to a four-year contract.
Powell received a signing bonus slightly north of $180,000.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #79
Jets waived DT Carlton Powell, S DaJuan Morgan, and LB Stafford Gatling.
Powell was a fifth-round pick by the Broncos out of Virginia Tech in 2008. His career never got on track after a torn Achilles’ tendon his rookie season. Morgan was the 82nd overall pick in the same draft.
  • TB Quarterback
Bucs waived QB Jevan Snead, LB Rico McCoy, DT Carlton Powell, TE Ryan Purvis, DT Dre Moore, and FB Rendrick Taylor.
This is Snead’s second release by the Bucs. Tampa decided Rudy Carpenter was a better third-string option. The team is keeping six linebackers, but McCoy may land on the practice squad. Purvis played at Boston College.
  • FA Defensive Lineman #79
Falcons signed DT Carlton Powell, formerly of the Jets.
Powell was cut loose by New York on Thursday. A fifth-round pick of the Broncos in 2008, Powell has never appeared in an NFL game after tearing his Achilles before his rookie training camp. That’s unlikely to change in Atlanta.
