Reds released RHP Carlos Portuondo.

Portuondo was just acquired from the Braves in February in the Brandon Phillips deal. Of course, that deal wasn’t really about the return haul for the Reds. Portuondo, 29, made just one appearance with the Reds’ Double-A affiliate before getting the boot.

Jesse Sanchez of MLB.com reports that the Braves have signed Cuban right-hander Carlos Portuondo.

He’s expected to receive a bonus of $990,000. The 28-year-old Portuondo pitched eight seasons in Cuba’s Serie Nacional while posting an underwhelming 5.75 ERA with 4.9 K/9 and 4.8 BB/9. He’s expected to start out as a reliever at the Double-A level.
