Carlos Gomez will retire at the conclusion of the Dominican Winter League season, according to Ronaldo E. Fermin.
Gomez was solid for the Rangers in 2017, but he had struggled in his opportunities since. Last year, he hit just .198/.278/.337 in 86 at-bats for the Mets. If he’s done, he finishes his career at .252/.313/.411 with 145 homers and 268 steals in 13 seasons. He was a two-time All-Star, and he finished ninth in the NL MVP balloting with the Brewers in 2013.

Carlos Gomez elected free agency after being outrighted to Triple-A Syracuse.
Gomez was designated for assignment by the Mets on June 30 after he hit just .198/.278/.337 over 99 plate appearances, and rather than report to the International League after clearing waivers, he’ll instead be free to sign with another team. It’s likely someone will give him another shot, but it’ll almost assuredly be on a minor league deal.

Mets designated OF Carlos Gomez for assignment.
Gomez hit only .198/.278/.337 across 99 plate appearances and wasn’t really needed with Michael Conforto playing more center field lately. He’ll surely pass through waivers and the Mets would probably like him to stick around as depth if he’s amendable to it.

Michael Conforto is not in the Mets’ lineup Sunday.
Jeff McNeil and Wilson Ramos are also getting a day off against southpaw Cole Hamels. J.D. Davis and Carlos Gomez are in the corner outfield spots and Tomas Nido is catching.

Carlos Gomez went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer on Saturday to help the Mets to a win over the Rockies.
Gomez socked a two-run shot off of Jon Gray in the second inning, and the outfielder now has two homers on the year to go along with seven RBI over seven games. He’s also hitting just .203 with a .633 OPS, and he’s not a recommended fantasy option at this point in his career.

Carlos Gomez wacked a pinch-hit, go-ahead RBI ground rule double in the Mets’ 5-4 win over the Diamondbacks.
J.D. Davis tied things up with an infield single before Gomez pinch-hit for Zack Wheeler and put the Mets in front. The 33-year-old Gomez has brought some energy to the Mets’ lineup and dugout, but it’s unclear how much he has left in the tank. He’s batting .231/.333/.385 with one home run, three doubles, five RBI, five runs scored and two steals over 15 games.

Carlos Gomez went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer and a walk to lead the Mets to a 6-4 win over the Nationals on Thursday.
The Mets were down 4-3 in the eighth when Gomez took Wander Suero deep for his first homer since being called up. He’s 3-for-16 since joining the Mets. He’ll continue to start at least until Michael Conforto returns from a concussion and probably for a little while beyond, what Brandon Nimmo and Jeff McNeil also hurting.

Mets purchased the contract of OF Carlos Gomez from Triple-A Syracuse.
Gomez had a June 1 opt-out in his contract, so it makes sense to give him a look with Michael Conforto (concussion) going down. The veteran outfielder has batted .268 with five homers, 19 RBI and five steals across 34 games for Syracuse this year. He’s starting in right field and batting sixth for the Mets on Friday and could have a little deep league appeal if he plays regularly while Conforto is out.

Carlos Gomez was removed from Thursday night’s game at Triple-A Syracuse.
The Mets haven’t announced a roster move yet, but Gomez is expected to be on his way to Miami to replace injured slugger Michael Conforto, who went down with a concussion in Thursday’s loss to the Nationals. A former All-Star and Gold Glover, Gomez has hit .268 with five homers, 19 RBI and five steals across 34 games for Syracuse this year.

Mets reassigned Carlos Gomez to minor league camp.
The 33-year-old failed to make the roster after signing a minor league deal with the Mets earlier this month. He spent last season with the Rays and it wasn’t a good one -- he batted .208/.298/.336 with nine home runs, 32 RBI and 12 stolen bases in 408 plate appearances. He could see some time in the majors this year with the Mets or another club but his days as a useful fantasy piece are likely over.
