Giants CB Brian Witherspoon re-injured his ACL in Wednesday’s practice.
Witherspoon had to be carted off the field in the team’s first practice of OTAs. It’s tough luck for a player who was facing an uphill battle to make the final roster.

    Giants waived/injured CB Brian Witherspoon.
Attempting to return after missing the entire 2011 season, Witherspoon re-injured his left ACL in the Giants’ first spring practice on Wednesday. The Giants confirmed that ACL is torn once again, which will prevent another team from claiming Witherspoon off waivers.

Former Jaguars, Lions and Giants CB Brian Witherspoon has retired from the NFL.
Witherspoon appeared in 23 games across three seasons, serving mostly as a kick returner. Two torn ACLs led to his quick exit from the league.

Bills special teams coach Bobby April is impressed with Jaguars return ace Brian Witherspoon.
Drafters of the Jags often mercurial fantasy defense are in for a pleasant surprise with Witherspoon. The undrafted rookie used his 4.3 speed to average 41.3 yards per kickoff return and 22.5 yards on two punt returns in Week 1 against the Titans.

Lions claimed CB/KR Brian Witherspoon on waivers from the Jaguars.
This is the fallout from Aaron Brown landing in coach Jim Schwartz’s doghouse. Witherspoon will likely take over both kickoff returns and punt returns for the Lions. If healthy, he’s a significant upgrade.

    Jaguars waived CB/KR Brian Witherspoon.
Witherspoon was an explosive kickoff return man as an undrafted rookie in 2008, but battled injuries all this season and never helped Jacksonville on defense. He’ll likely get another shot elsewhere on an offseason roster.
