Dolphins re-signed LB Brennan Scarlett to a one-year contract.
Scarlett will return for another season with Miami after spending his first five NFL seasons with Houston. He was used as a rotational defensive lineman in 2021, starting four games for Miami and recording 19 tackles.

  • FA Running Back #22
The Miami Herald reports that the Dolphins are interested in re-signing RB Duke Johnson and LBs Brennan Scarlett and Duke Riley.
“The Dolphins likely would offer each a modest deal,” the Herald said. Johnson came on late for the Dolphins and clearly outplayed Myles Gaskin. This backfield likely still has some real flux in it, with Raheem Mostert a rumored target who Mike McDaniel is familiar with, but Johnson could be a real part of the rotation in 2022.

  • Dolphins signed LB Brennan Scarlett, formerly of the Texans.
Scarlett was used as a rotational linebacker with the Texans last year, totaling 28 tackles across 287 defensive snaps. He remains only one year removed from notching a career-high 3.5 sacks with Houston.

  • Texans placed LB Brennan Scarlett (forearm) on injured reserve.
Scarlett broke his arm in Sunday’s win and had surgery this week. The Texans claimed Nate Orchard off waivers from Washington to replace Scarlett on the active roster.

  • Texans signed OLB Brennan Scarlett to a one-year, $3.75 million extension through 2020.
Scarlett is tentatively expected to fill in for Jadeveon Clowney if he continues his holdout into the regular season. 26-year-old Scarlett is a former UDFA out of Stanford who has two career sacks in 30 appearances.
  • Texans assigned an original-round tender to restricted free agent OLB Brennan Scarlett.
The tender will pay $2.025 million. Because Scarlett entered the league as an undrafted free agent, the Texans will not receive any compensation if he is signed away, but they will get the opportunity to match any offer sheet. Scarlett has mostly helped out on special teams so far in his career.
  • Texans placed OLB Brennan Scarlett (ankle) on injured reserve.
Scarlett was questionable for this week’s game, but the Texans are shutting him down. It’s the second straight year he’s ended the season on IR. Scarlett had 18 tackles and an interception in a low-volume rotational role. He’s a restricted free agent in 2019.
  • Texans designated rookie OLB Brennan Scarlett (hamstring) as their return player.
An undrafted rookie out of Stanford, Scarlett had two tackles in five appearances before landing on injured reserve with a hamstring issue. He is expected to be activated for Sunday’s game against the Jaguars. With Scarlett activated, J.J. Watt’s season is officially over.
  • Texans activated rookie OLB Brennan Scarlett from injured reserve.
Scarlett’s return comes at a good time with Whitney Mercilus (questionable, back) likely to miss Week 15. The Texans cut CB Al-Hajj Shabazz in a corresponding move.
  • Texans second-year OLB Brennan Scarlett is the leading candidate to start opposite Whitney Mercilus.
Scarlett was healthy for only seven games as an undrafted rookie, but showed enough that Houston made him their IR return player. He’ll have the first chance at replacing John Simon. The Texans also got second round LB Zach Cunningham some outside reps at OTAs.
