Bogaerts signed a six-year, $120 million contract extension with the Red Sox in March 2019.
He opted out of the final three years, $60 million guaranteed on his deal after the 2022 season to become a free agent, then signed an 11-year, $280 million contract with the Padres on Dec. 8, per ESPN's Jeff Passan. The deal keeps Bogaerts in San Diego through his age-40 season.
Through 10 seasons in the majors, Bogaerts has earned more than $73 million.

Xander Bogaerts' international career
Bogaerts has represented the Netherlands, of which Aruba is a principality, in various international competitions. He played for the Dutch in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, winning a gold medal, as well as in the World Baseball Classic in 2013 and 2017.
Bogaerts is fluent in Dutch, as well as English, Spanish and Papiamento.
