Chris Sale ‘in awe' of Tom Brady's continued success

Tom Brady's six Super Bowl titles with the New England Patriots speak for themselves, but his seventh championship with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers was unprecedented.

In the first season of Brady's post-Patriots career, the 43-year-old brought the Bucs their second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history. Boston Red Sox pitcher and Florida native Chris Sale -- who knows a thing or two about bringing championships to Boston -- was asked Friday whether he thought the ex-Pats QB's latest accomplishment was incredible.

Tomase: Baseball may be boring, but Verdugo has ideas on how to save it

“Yes and no,” Sale said on WEEI's The Greg Hill Show. “I mean, yes because any normal person would think that’s impossible, but with Tom Brady we’ve seen anything is possible. So, yes it’s shocking. But because it’s Tom Brady, no not really. The guy is on another level now. I think he just put himself on a completely different level than any other, for sure any football player, but probably any other athlete ever. That was impressive.”

Sale, 31, is just as amazed as the rest of us by Brady's continued excellence heading into his age 44 season.

“To do what Tom Brady does at that age, and what he has done, that will be hard to replicate. It’s hard not to be in awe of what he does and be inspired to be that," Sale said. I don’t know how many years ... I don’t know if I’m going to be able to get there."

Regardless of how many years Sale has left, the 2018 World Series champ says he hopes to retire in Boston. For now, he continues to recover from Tommy John surgery and hopes to return to the front of the Red Sox rotation sometime in the summer.
