Sox prospect Blaze Jordan promoted after scorching start

On Talkin’ Baseball, John Tomase and Lou Merloni express their frustration with the Red Sox ownership group and the role in played in a quiet trade deadline for Boston.

The Boston Red Sox were drawn to Blaze Jordan's raw power when they selected him in the third round of the 2020 MLB Draft. That pop was immediately put on display in his first taste of professional baseball action.

Jordan was promoted to Single-A Salem on Tuesday after tearing up the Florida Complex League. The 18-year-old hit .362 with four home runs, 12 extra-base hits, and a 1.075 OPS in 19 games.

Tomase: Doubts about these Red Sox start with ownership

Jordan, Boston's No. 14 ranked prospect according to SoxProspects.com, was renowned for his power at a young age. At 11 years old, the corner infielder won his first national home run derby. Two years after that, he participated in another and crushed two 500-foot homers. He won the High School Home Run Derby in 2019.

At the next level, Jordan will need to work on his swing-and-miss tendencies. While his strikeouts are a concern -- as they are with most young sluggers -- his 17.1 percent strikeout rate with the FCL Red Sox was fairly encouraging. Especially after not having a 2020 minor league season.

Jordan currently spends most of his time at third base, but scouts believe he's destined to switch to first at the higher levels. Regardless of where he's placed on the field, Jordan will look to continue making a name for himself with his tape-measure homers.
