Jason Mastrodonato and Tom Giles react strongly to the Red Sox’ reported contract extension offer to Rafael Devers this offseason
The Boston Red Sox will be without Rafael Devers for the foreseeable future.
The All-Star third baseman was placed on the 10-day injured list Saturday with right hamstring inflammation, the team announced. Manager Alex Cora mentioned the possibility of Devers being placed on the IL before Saturday's game vs. the Toronto Blue Jays.

SIGN UP HERE “After the last at-bat yesterday, he felt his right hammy,” Cora said. “We’re debating right now what we’re going to do. There’s a chance he goes on the IL. He’s going through testing and all that stuff. We’ll see. But there’s a good chance he’ll go on the IL.”
Devers missed multiple games prior to the All-Star break due to back and hamstring soreness. Cora claims Devers felt fine throughout the All-Star festivities in Los Angeles and tweaked the hamstring during Friday's 28-5 loss to Toronto.
“He says he felt in the swing (in his final at-bat). If you see him running the bases on the first one, the double, he didn’t look too good rounding first,” Cora added. “I guess he kept grinding. There was a swing and he grabbed it. I was like, ‘Are you OK?’ He was like, ‘Nah.’ Like I said, we’re talking about it and we’ll see where we go.”
Devers joins a lengthy list of sidelined Red Sox players that includes Chris Sale, Trevor Story, Rich Hill, Michael Wacha, Matt Strahm, Kiké Hernandez, and Christian Arroyo. Hernandez was transferred to the 60-day IL on Saturday, leaving room for outfielder Jaylin Davis to be recalled from Triple-A Worcester.

Rookie infielder Jeter Downs replaced Devers at third base for Saturday's game at Fenway Park. Red Sox designated hitter J.D. Martinez also was absent for the second consecutive game due to back spasms and was replaced in the lineup by Franchy Cordero.
