Red Sox' Eduardo Rodriguez: COVID-19 ‘hit me really hard'

John Tomase explains how the 2020 season will be a success if we end up hating Red Sox less.

Eduardo Rodriguez's experience with COVID-19 is an important reminder that the virus can take a toll on even the healthiest of individuals.

The Boston Red Sox left-hander was able to rejoin his teammates Saturday after testing positive for the coronavirus on July 7. On Sunday, E-Rod spoke to the media about his experience with COVID-19 and made it clear it isn't anything to take lightly.

"For me, I was feeling like all of the symptoms," Rodriguez said. "All the symptoms you can see on Google like headaches, fever, all of that stuff. It hit me really hard."

Rodriguez revealed his wife also was sick with the virus, and said the symptoms made him feel like he "was 100 years old."

Now that he's healthy, E-Rod is set to resume working out with his Red Sox teammates. However, the 27-year-old won't start on Opening Day as was originally planned. Instead, it'll be righty Nathan Eovaldi taking the mound vs. the Baltimore Orioles.

The Red Sox' opener at Fenway Park is set to take place Friday at 7:30 p.m. ET.
