The Boston Red Sox have made another offseason move, but it likely won't please fans hoping for a big splash.
The Red Sox have signed veteran utility man Rob Refsnyder to a minor-league contract, Mass Live's Chris Cotillo reported Tuesday.
A fifth-round draft pick of the Yankees in 2012, Refsnyder played two-plus major-league seasons for New York from 2015 to 2017, hitting .241 over 94 games while playing every position but shortstop and catcher.

The Yankees traded Refsnyder to the Toronto Blue Jays in July 2017, and he's played for five teams since then. The 30-year-old South Korea native spent the 2021 campaign with the Minnesota Twins, hitting .245 with two home runs and 12 RBIs in 51 games.
Refsnyder is Boston's second offseason signing after the team inked pitcher Michael Wacha to a one-year, $7 million contract. Refsnyder has experience at a position of need for the Red Sox (second base), but he's likely more of a depth add than an impact player.
While an expected Major League Baseball lockout could shut down offseason activities as soon as Wednesday night, it doesn't look like chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom is intent on making a major move in the coming days.
