The Boston Red Sox bullpen could undergo some major changes this offseason, particularly if closer Craig Kimbrel signs elsewhere in MLB free agency.
The Red Sox figure to be in the mix for a couple of the best relief pitchers on the market, and FanCred's Jon Heyman reported on two of them linked to Boston: Adam Ottavino and David Robertson.
Robertson is a Rhode Island native and reportedly wants to pitch close to home, making the Red Sox a natural fit. He went 8-3 record with five saves, 21 holds, a 3.23 ERA, 91 strikeouts and 26 walks over 69 2/3 innings for the Yankees last season.
Ottavino went 6-4 with a 2.43 ERA, 112 strikeouts, 36 walks and a 0.99 WHIP over 77 2/3 innings for the Colorado Rockies in 2018. He's from New York, so pitching in Boston would bring him much closer to home.
The Red Sox had the fourth-best bullpen ERA in the American League last season, and it was a critical component to them 2018 World Series. You can bet the Red Sox will look to build on that success in 2019, and Robertson and Ottavino are two good options for accomplishing that goal.
