Craig Kimbrel is still waiting on a new job. So, when that job comes, he'd like to stick around a while.
The former Boston Red Sox closer doesn't "desire" a one-year contract in free agency and would prefer to sign a multi-year deal, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported Tuesday.
Kimbrel sought a five-year contract in the $100 million range at the beginning of this past offseason, per reports, and while he's reportedly lowered his price tag since then, the 30-year-old seemingly is against being a one-year rental.
Rosenthal also noted Kimbrel and free-agent starter Dallas Keuchel could continue their holdouts until after the June 3 MLB Amateur Draft, at which point their former teams would no longer receive draft pick compensation if they signed elsewhere. That would put Kimbrel and Kuechel back in action by late June or early July, where they'd be the equivalent of a trade deadline pickup for a contender.
Several teams reportedly have remained interested in Kimbrel, including the Atlanta Braves, the Milwaukee Brewers and Minnesota Twins.
There were early rumblings the Red Sox would consider bringing the seven-time All-Star back, but those seem to have subsided, as Ryan Brasier appears to be emerging as Boston's preferred ninth-inning option over Matt Barnes.
