
The Boston Red Sox already are making moves more than a week ahead of the Aug. 31 MLB trade deadline.
On Friday, they traded relievers Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree along with cash considerations to the Philadelphia Phillies for right-handers Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold.

Workman was set to become an unrestricted free agent after this season. The two-time World Series champion has a 4.05 ERA and 1.80 WHIP through seven appearances this year.
Hembree, who joined the Red Sox in 2014, has a 5.59 ERA and 1.24 WHIP in 11 games.
Pivetta, a former top pitching prospect for the Phillies, has struggled to put it all together through four seasons at the major league level. The 27-year-old has a career 19-30 record with a 5.50 in 396.1 innings.
