David Price to have wrist surgery Thursday, expected back for 2020

We already knew David Price wouldn't pitch again in 2019. Now the question becomes, what about 2020?

In an effort to get ready for next season, Price will have surgery to remove the cyst from his left wrist on Thursday in Boston. Alex Cora says the Red Sox expect him to be ready for a normal spring training in five months.

Price was one of the team's best starters in the first half of the season, as he was 7-2 with a 3.16 ERA over his first 17 starts.

But he went downhill quickly after that, with an 0-3 record and a 9.47 ERA over his final five outings of the season, only making it out of the fifth inning once in that stretch.

Despite the team's expectation that he'll be good to go for 2020, Price's situation is just one of a number of questions surrounding the Red Sox rotation next season. Will Chris Sale bounce back after the worst season of his career? Can Nathan Eovaldi make it through a season without injuries after a disappointing first season post-$68M contract? Will Eduardo Rodriguez follow up on his stellar campaign, or was 2019 an outlier? Is Rick Porcello definitely gone, and if so, who takes his place?

Hopefully for the Sox, Price will be ready to contribute in 2020, the fifth year of his seven-year, $217 million contract.
