Gilmore's non-contact knee injury vs. Dolphins didn't look good

Stephon Gilmore suffered a nasty-looking injury Sunday in the New England Patriots' Week 15 matchup with the Miami Dolphins.

The Patriots cornerback slipped on the Hard Rock Stadium turf while in coverage on Dolphins tight end Mack Hollins and immediately grabbed his left knee.

Gilmore briefly went to the Patriots' medical tent before heading to the Patriots' locker room with the help of trainers. He was walking very gingerly and was putting very little weight on his left knee.

New England initially listed Gilmore as doubtful to return and later ruled him out.

Gilmore is New England's No. 1 cornerback and the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year, so losing him would be a huge blow for the Patriots, who inserted Jason McCourty in Gilmore's stead opposite J.C. Jackson.

The 30-year-old also is entering the final year of his contract in 2021, so his injury certainly is worth monitoring if it turns out to be serious.
