Report: Texans won't hire general manager for 2019 season following Nick Caserio drama

The Texans last month withdrew their pursuit of Nick Caserio for their open general manager position. Now, they've reportedly withdrawn their pursuit of any GM at all.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Wednesday that Houston will not have a GM for the 2019 NFL season. Instead, responsibilities will be split between front-office members Matt Bazirgan, James Liipfert, Chris Olsen and ex-Pats character coach Jack Easterby.

The Texans fired their former general manager Brian Gain in early June and immediately shifted their focus to Caserio for the role. New England wasted no time filing tampering charges against Houston for talking to Caserio and the Texans, as a result, ended their pursuit of the longtime Patriots staffer.

Caserio's close relationship with Texans head coach Bill O'Brien is said to be the driving force behind Caserio's interest in taking leaving the Patriots the Houston job. While they'll be GM-less for 2019, it'll be interesting to see if they make another run at Caserio once his contract with the Pats runs out after the 2020 NFL Draft.
