Report: Brandon Browner gets eight-year sentence in attempted murder case

Brandon Browner won't be anywhere near an NFL field anytime soon.

The former New England Patriots cornerback has been sentenced to eight years in prison after pleading "no contest" to an attempted murder charge, TMZ Sports reported Tuesday.

Browner was arrested in July following an incident in which he allegedly broke into his ex-girlfriend's apartment in La Verne, Calif., stole her Rolex watch, and threatened to kill her.

Browner allegedly forced the victim back into her apartment when she tried to flee and smothered her with a carpet.

The 34-year-old faced multiple charges that could have carried a life sentence, per TMZ, but pled no contest Tuesday to one count of attempted murder and two counts of willful child endangerment in exchange for having his other charges -- robbery, burglary and false imprisonment -- dropped.

Browner played five NFL seasons, winning a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks in 2013 and another in 2014 during his lone season with the Patriots.
