Patriots QB coach Jedd Fisch named Arizona head coach

The New England Patriots have dealt with a lot of turnover on their coaching staff in the last few years, and that will continue this offseason.

Patriots quarterbacks coach Jedd Fisch will become the new head coach of the University of Arizona football team, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Field Yates. Fisch will replace Kevin Sumlin, who Arizona fired earlier this month.

Fisch was in his first season with the Patriots. This Arizona job will be his first head coaching gig, but he does have plenty of experience at major college programs, including previous roles at the University of Miami (FL), UCLA and Michigan.

The Wildcats program has struggled in recent seasons and hasn't won more than seven games since 2014. This year's team is 0-5, and it's most recent game was an embarrassing 70-7 defeat to archrival Arizona State on Dec. 11.

The Patriots passing attack has struggled under Fisch in 2020 and ranks 30th in passing yards per game and 32nd in passing touchdowns.

UPDATE (1 p.m. ET): The Wildcats made it official Wednesday afternoon by announcing Fisch as their new head coach.
