NFL rumors: Redskins listening to trade calls for No. 2 pick in 2020 draft

Could we see a blockbuster trade early in the 2020 NFL Draft?

The Cincinnati Bengals will begin Thursday night's first round with the No. 1 overall pick, and they will presumably select LSU quarterback and Heisman Trophy winner Joe Burrow. After Burrow is where the draft might get interesting.

The Washington Redskins own the No. 2 pick, and NFL Media's Ian Rapoport reported Tuesday morning that they are listening to teams interested in moving up to the second overall selection.

Trading the No. 2 pick makes a lot of sense for the Redskins. They have an abysmal roster with many weaknesses on both sides of the ball. Therefore, trading the second pick for a bunch of other valuable selections (maybe multiple first-rounders?) would give Washington a better chance at plugging as many roster holes as possible. The Redskns also aren't in dire need of a quarterback after selecting Dwayne Haskins out of Ohio State with the No. 15 pick in the 2019 NFL Draft.

Getting a team that wants a quarterback -- such as Alabama's Tua Tagovailoa and Oregon's Justin Herbert -- to overpay for a trade up to No. 2 would be a smart move for the Redskins.

The Patriots are one team that could be in the mix for a quarterback in the first round, but moving all the way up to No. 2 would cost a lot of picks, and New England already is without a second-rounder. This draft is ultra important for the Patriots if they want to remain a true AFC contender during the post-Tom Brady era. How are the Pats going to replace the important defensive players who left in free agency over the last month if they don't have many picks in the early and middle rounds?

The better move for the Patriots probably is trading out of the first round and picking up a second-rounder and another pick (or two) as a result. It would be fun if the Patriots made a huge splash and acquired the No. 2 pick, but it just doesn't make sense for New England given its current situation.
