Julian Edelman has been on the same page with Tom Brady for years. They've trained in the summer together, made trips to the Kentucky Derby and posted Instagram photos with each other. Now, Edelman and Brady will share something else in common: their lives will be made into documentaries.
On Monday afternoon, Edelman announced on his Instagram that Showtime is producing a documentary entitled "100%: Julian Edelman", which will debut June 28 at 9 p.m. ET. Brady's docuseries, "Tom vs. Time", streamed on Facebook in early 2018.
"100% is an intimate behind the scenes look at the three-time Super Bowl Champion during a critical juncture in his life," a Showtime press release said. Edelman was suspended for the first four games of 2019, but later won Super Bowl LIII MVP.
The Edelman documentary will focus on the wide receiver's recent seasons, specifically his knee injury and ensuing PED suspension, per Deadline. The documentary also includes conversations with Mark Wahlberg, Snoop Dogg and Deion Sanders, among others.
He's always shown a creative side with his "Smoothie Time" and other videos, but Edelman may have more ambitious Hollywood aspirations. The documentary is co-written and executive produced by Assaf Swissa, which might hint at Edelman's post-football plans. Swissa is Edelman's business partner, and Edelman himself is listed as a producer on the project. According to Deadline, Edelman and Swissa are using the documentary to launch Coast Productions, a Boston-based television and movie production company.
Still, Bill Belichick and the Patriots will need Edelman to focus on the field. Without Rob Gronkowski, who seems content in retirement, Edelman is New England's clear No. 1 receiving option. Edelman, 33, recently worked out with Brady ahead of this week's mandatory mini camp, and is coming off a 2018 season during which he tallied 850 yards and six touchdown receptions.

"What I play is a tough game, and you’re handling media during games and practice and it’s all about football," Edelman told Deadline. "This was an outlet to showcase and communicate a synergy directly with fans and showing them what you’re really about. After doing that first Smoothie Time video, seeing the cutting, and learning about the background of making and producing content, thinking it’s going to be complete (expletive), and then we make it and then people like it, that’s when I got interested in being part of a producing team. It’s fun to have a say and we’ve got a good team and that’s when I really got interested in doing more.”
