Dolphins officially hire Brian Flores as head coach after Patriots' Super Bowl win

We knew Brian Flores was going to be the next head coach of the Miami Dolphins, and it became official Monday.

The New England Patriots linebackers coach and defensive playcaller was announced as the Dolphins' new coach, less than 24 hours after he helped the Pats totally shut down the high-scoring Los Angeles Rams offense in a 13-3 win in Super Bowl LIII.

“Two things that stand out immediately when you meet Brian are his football intelligence and leadership skills,” Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said in a statement. “Brian is widely respected throughout the NFL. He paid his dues in New England working in personnel, on offense, defense and special teams, which helped him build a great understanding of what it takes to win. If you talk with anyone who has played for him or worked with him, you will hear about his ability to lead and get the most out of people. Brian sets a high standard for his players and coaches and we are completely aligned with our vision on how to build a successful organization.”

Flores takes over for Adam Gase, who the Dolphins fired after the regular season. Miami has missed the playoffs in back-to-back seasons, and it has made the postseason just once in the last 10 years.

This will be Flores' first head coaching job in the NFL. He had been a part of the Patriots organization since 2004.
