The New England Patriots made another somewhat surprising pick in the 2022 NFL Draft on Saturday.

Even though players with intriguing talent at several defensive positions were still on the board, head coach Bill Belichick and his staff opted to take Western Kentucky quarterback Bailey Zappe with the 137th overall pick in the fourth round.

Perry: Why did the Patriots draft a quarterback in the fourth round?

Zappe completed 69.2 percent of his passes for 5,967 yards with 62 touchdowns and 11 interceptions last season. He joins a Patriots quarterback depth chart that includes starter Mac Jones, backup Brian Hoyer and 2019 draft pick Jarrett Stidham.
