Second Belichick son, Brian, joins Patriots staff as scouting assistant

The release of the Patriots media guide broke some news on Thursday. On page No. 48 were listed three new scouting assistants, including Brian Belichick, the younger of coach Bill Belichick's two sons.

It may seem as though it wasn't all that long ago that Brian was figuring out his Spanish homework in his father's office, but since then he's graduated from Trinity College, and spent time working with the Patriots in different capacities. He's been spotted lately at team practices, and he was part of a Patriots contingent that traveled to this year's Senior Bowl leading up to the draft.

Belichick will now have both of his sons officially on staff as his older son Steve is in his first year as safeties coach. Belichick was asked about working alongside Steve last month.

"It’s really special. It’s special to be able to come in every day and see him," Belichick said. "There were certainly a lot of days I wasn’t there when they were at school. I was doing my thing and they were doing theirs, so it’s great to be able to see him every day."

Now he'll get to see both of his sons at the Patriots facilities as they take on new jobs.

Along with Belichick, the Patriots have added a pair of new scouting assistants in DJ Debick and Camren Williams.

Debick is one of seven John Carroll University alums on staff in New England -- a list that includes offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels and director of player personnel Nick Caserio. Debick was a three-year letterwinner for the Blue Streaks and a captain in 2012. He graduated in 2013 with a degree in business management.

Williams is from West Roxbury, Mass. and played at Catholic Memorial before making his way to Ohio State. For the Buckeyes, he served primarily as a special-teamer and a reserve linebacker, and he graduated in December with a degree in communications. His father, Brent, had an 11-year career in the NFL that included eight seasons with the Patriots.

The Patriots have also added a pair of new coaching assistants in Mike Pellegrino and Cole Popovich.

Pellegrino was a football operations intern with the Patriots last season. He graduated from Johns Hopkins in 2015 with a degree in political science after earning All-American honors in lacrosse.

Popovich was with the team late last season and took on a role helping with the Patriots offensive line. A former lineman under one-time Belichick assistant Pat Hill at Fresno State, Popovich has also coached at Minot State since finishing up his collegiate playing career.

Steve Belichick and assistant quarterbacks coach Jerry Schuplinski occupied coaching assistant positions last year. Nick Caley -- another John Carroll alumnus -- is in his second season as a coaching assistant.
