Ainge: Celtics forward Romeo Langford won't be ready for start of camp

Brad Stevens talks about the two newest members of the Celtics, Aaron Nesmith and Payton Pritchard

Boston Celtics forward Romeo Langford had wrist surgery in September and won't be ready for the start of training camp, according to team president of basketball operations Danny Ainge.

Ainge gave the update during his press conference late Wednesday night following the 2020 NBA Draft, during which the Celtics made three picks (two in the first round, one in the second round).

"He's been in the gym working everyday, working very hard," Ainge said of Langford. "He still has a cast on, so that tells you he won't be ready when we start training camp, but I don't have a timeframe for him yet."

Langford was selected by the Celtics with the No. 14 pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Injuries limited him to 35 games as a rookie. He averaged 2.5 points and 1.3 rebounds in 11.6 minutes per matchup. The University of Indiana product also appeared in seven playoff games.

Training camps begin around the league on Dec. 1, and the start of the regular season is set for Dec. 22. The 72-game regular season schedule has not yet been released.
