Report: Wizards told Bradley Beal they won’t trade him

As soon as the Los Angeles Lakers traded for Anthony Davis, Danny Ainge's master plan of stockpiling assets lost the grand prize. Celtics fans are wondering which star will be the next to become disgruntled and demand a trade so Boston can cash their trade assets in.

Many pointed to Washington Wizards star Bradley Beal. The Wizards are in a rebuilding state and have one of the most untradeable contracts — John Wall — on the books, so some speculated toward a "blow-it-up" move for the future. Even Sports Illustrated senior writer Chris Mannix speculated Beal could be the next big star to become available.

But according to Ben Golliver of the Washington Post, Beal said that team owner/CEO Ted Leonsis, Senior Vice President of Basketball Operations Tommy Sheppard and head coach Scott Brooks all separately told him they won't trade him.

“They’ve been very transparent and that’s been great,” Beal told the Washington Post. “They’re not keeping me in the dark about anything, even about the trade rumors. . . . It’s great having that peace of mind.”

Still, that doesn't necessarily close the door on a Beal trade. Last January, Leonsis told Otto Porter he wouldn't move him, then shipped him to the Chicago Bulls a week later. Also, the Wizards still have a glaring vacancy at the general manager position, and whoever fills that role may take a different approach to the rebuilding process.

In the meantime, Celtics fans should tamper expectations on a Beal trade and recalibrate the search efforts for the next A-list star to hit the trade market.
