Report: C's, Raptors have discussed Game 1 boycott after Blake shooting

Several NBA players and coaches have spoken out after a police officer shot James Blake on Sunday.

But the Boston Celtics and Toronto Raptors reportedly are considering taking action.

Players from both teams met Tuesday night at their Orlando hotel to discuss potentially boycotting Thursday's Game 1 of their second-round NBA playoff series, The Undefeated's Marc Spears reported Wednesday.

The Celtics and Raptors are expected to meet again Wednesday night, per Spears, who added the "majority" of players still want to play Game 1.

Blake, an unarmed Black man, was shot multiple times at point-blank range by a white police officer in Kenosha, Wisc., on Sunday, re-igniting protests that began earlier this year over the police killings of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor.

Celtics teammates Jaylen Brown and Marcus Smart spoke at length about Blake's shooting Tuesday, demanding action to address racial injustice and police violence. Brown said the team hadn't discussed the possibility of a boycott as of Tuesday afternoon, but apparently those conversations happened later in the day.

Many NBA players came to the Orlando bubble hoping to use their platforms to address systemic racism in America. Racial injustice has persisted, however, apparently leading some players to consider more drastic measures to make their voices heard.
