Magic Johnson's brief and unsuccessful tenure as Los Angeles Lakers president of basketball operations came to a surprising end Tuesday night when he announced his decision to step down during an impromptu press conference at Staples Center.
Johnson didn't even inform Lakers owner Jeanie Buss of his plans before revealing the news to the media.
To say this announcement was unexpected would be an understatement. Johnson stood in front of reporters for more than 40 minutes after his opening remarks, and he answered a ton of questions about his time in the role, and even offered information without being asked. It was one of the craziest press conferences in NBA history.
