NBA trade rumors: Details of potential Celtics-Bucks deal revealed

The NBA trade deadline is just two days away, and talks are intensifying.

The Boston Celtics offered to trade Dennis Schroder to the Milwaukee Bucks in return for Donte DiVincenzo over the weekend, The Athletic's Jared Weiss reported Tuesday.

The Bucks countered by asking the Celtics for Grant Williams in addition to Schroder, per Weiss. Boston "balked" at that counter-offer, but the two sides "continue to explore frameworks that include Williams," Weiss reports.

Longtime NBA reporter Jackie MacMullan reported Monday the C's were considering trading Williams, which is somewhat surprising considering the 23-year-old is the best 3-point shooter (42.8%) on a team that desperately needs outside shooting.

Williams also is a valuable trade chip, though, as evidenced by Milwaukee's interest in him.

DiVincenzo is a solid potential fit for Boston: While he's shooting just 28.6% from three this season in limited minutes, he averaged 10.4 points per game last season on 37.9% 3-point shooting and is on favorable contract (two years, $11.2 million remaining on his deal).

A Schroder-DiVincenzo swap would have saved the Celtics more than $1 million in cap space, as well. But if the Bucks also want Williams, C's president of basketball operations Brad Stevens should hold out for more than just DiVincenzo in return, whether that's draft capital, an additional low-cost player like veteran guard George Hill or wing Jordan Nwora, or a combination of both.

Boston also could take its business elsewhere: Weiss reports the Cleveland Cavaliers remain in the mix for Schroder despite trading for Caris LeVert and could offer the Celtics a package that includes "two of Kevin Pangos, Ed Davis and Dylan Windler" in addition to draft picks.
