It appears the Los Angeles Lakers' efforts to snag Anthony Davis before the offseason have come up short.
The Lakers' trade talks with the New Orleans Pelicans appear to be dead just hours before Thursday's 3 p.m. ET NBA trade deadline, ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reports.
That's great news for the Boston Celtics, who can't trade for Davis until July 1 while Kyrie Irving still is on their roster and are hoping Davis stays in New Orleans through the deadline.
The Lakers (and Davis' agent, Rich Paul) made a strong push to bring the 25-year-old big man to L.A., reportedly sending the Pelicans multiple offers over the past several days. But New Orleans reportedly was unwilling to engage, content on waiting L.A. out until the offseason unless it was blown away by an offer.
Teams like the New York Knicks and Los Angeles Clippers still could make a run at Davis before 3 p.m. ET, though, so the C's can't breathe easy quite yet.
