New York Knicks fans are very excited right now.
The franchise is hoping to lure one or two of the marquee NBA free agents expected to hit the open market this summer, and the two names most often linked to New York in rumors are Golden State Warriors forward Kevin Durant and Boston Celtics point guard Kyrie Irving.
The Knicks also have a large stake in Tuesday night's NBA Draft Lottery in Chicago. New York has a 14 percent chance of winning the lottery, which is tied for the best odds with the Phoenix Suns and Cleveland Cavaliers.
However, The Athletic's Shams Charania reported Tuesday that if the Knicks win the lottery and secure the No. 1 pick, they will turn to a potential Anthony Davis trade and use likely top pick Zion Williamson of Duke and 2018 first-round pick Kevin Knox in a potential package for the New Orleans Pelicans center.

A package of Williamson and Knox would be a tough one for rival teams to beat in the Davis trade sweepstakes. The Knicks likely will have plenty of competition for Davis, though.

The Boston Celtics have been involved in many Davis trade rumors over the last few years, and they figure to be a contender for his services, especially if Irving re-signs. The Los Angeles Lakers failed in embarrassing fashion to acquire Davis before the trade deadline during the regular season, and they could try again as part of their quest to pair a second franchise player with LeBron James.
The balance of power could shift in a major way with the results of the 2019 draft lottery, and a Knicks victory could have the most impact in that regard.
