Smart's basketball advice includes hilarious shot at John Adams

Chris Forsberg explains how hitting the weight room could potentially help Jayson Tatum see another leap in his game.

Marcus Smart was kind enough to answer a fan's request for basketball advice, but a certain former United States president wouldn't be thrilled with his response.

A fan tweeted at the Boston Celtics guard on Friday asking the two-time All-Defensive First Team selection how to improve his own defensive game.

"Takes little “talent” to play defense," Smart replied. "Takes a wholelotta 'want to'. Get every 50/50 ball. If you’re not quik defensively—get strong. Strength hides weaknesses. Take charges. Be a gr8 teammate. Compete. Never be ok w losing. No one remembers the 2nd US President. Only the 1st."

Schroder announced new Celtics jersey number

That's A+ advice from Smart and an amazing gesture from the longest-tenured Celtic, but we can't ignore that shot at John Adams. Naturally, Twitter had some hilarious responses to Smart taking aim at the second U.S. president.

Smart embraced the John Adams jokes and even shared a couple of his own.

In the midst of the hilarity, the fan responded to Smart's advice with a thankful message and received more words of wisdom from the seven-year veteran.

Great stuff all around. Unless you're John Adams, of course.

Smart signed a four-year, $77 million contract extension with the Celtics during the offseason. The 27-year-old is expected to be the team's starting point guard for the 2021-22 campaign.
