The Boston Celtics have upgraded their roster in a substantial way early in NBA free agency.
The Celtics on Friday reportedly agreed to acquire veteran point guard Malcolm Brogdon in a trade with the Indiana Pacers and gave up a 2023 first-round pick, Aaron Nesmith, Daniel Theis, Juwan Morgan, Nik Stauskas and Malik Fitts.
Brogdon averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 5.9 assists in 36 games with the Pacers last season. He shot 31.2 percent from 3-point range, but that was an outlier based on the rest of his career. His career 3-point percentage is 37.6 over six seasons.

Brogdon also is a very strong defensive player and an impressive playmaker. He's versatile enough to play both guard positions and could excel as a starter or in a bench role. Overall, he gives Celtics head coach Ime Udoka a lot of options lineup-wise.
