Doncic chirps ex-Celtics assistant Jerome Allen after scoring 53 vs. Pistons

Chris Mannix shares what he’s hearing about what the Celtics are looking to do before the trade deadline, and why the team’s most likely moves are getting some of their bench depth “right” before the playoffs begin.

Former Boston Celtics assistant coach Jerome Allen, who currently is an assistant with the Detroit Pistons, had an eventful Monday night when his team visited the Dallas Mavericks.

Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic claimed Allen started chirping him in the first quarter. It clearly fueled Doncic, who scored 24 of the Mavericks' 30 first-quarter points and ended up with a game-high 53 points on 17-of-28 shooting, along with eight rebounds, five assists and two steals as Dallas earned a 111-105 victory.

With seven seconds left in the game and the Mavericks essentially guaranteed to win, Doncic had some final words for Allen and the Pistons bench. (Watch the exchange here).

Trash talking with certain players is a bad idea, especially if it's going to motivate them, and clearly that's what happened with Doncic. He admitted as much in his postgame press conference.

He also addressed the trash talk during his postgame interview with Bally Sports Southwest:

Doncic's 50-point game was the fifth of his career. The only players in NBA history with five or more games of 50-plus points over their first five seasons are Michael Jordan (17) and LeBron James (five).

Allen, who left the Celtics in 2021 to join the Pistons, probably shouldn't chirp Doncic like that anymore. Luckily for him, the Pistons don't play Doncic and the Mavericks again this season.
