Tatum to replace Durant as starter in All-Star Game

The Boston Celtics will have a starter in the 2021 NBA All-Star Game after all.

Originally selected as a reserve, Celtics forward Jayson Tatum now will take over for injured Brooklyn Nets forward Kevin Durant in the starter pool for the All-Star Draft. Indiana Pacers big man Damontas Sabonis was named as Durant's replacement and will be selected with the reserves.

Tatum joins Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bradley Beal, Joel Embiid, and Kyrie Irving as starters from the Eastern Conference. Stephen Curry, LeBron James, Nikola Jokic, Kawhi Leonard, and Luka Doncic are the starters from the West.

Forsberg: Ainge waiting until offseason to use TPE is a dangerous game

Through 27 games, Tatum is averaging a career-high 25.6 points to go along with 6.9 rebounds and 4.5 assists. The 22-year-old has been one of the only bright spots in what's been a disappointing Celtics season to this point.

Another positive has been the play of Jaylen Brown, who also will represent the C's in this year's NBA All-Star Game as a reserve. Brown is averaging 25.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game while shooting just under 50 percent from the field.

The 2021 NBA All-Star Game will take place in Atlanta on March 7. Tip-off for the event is set for 8 p.m. ET.
